SLO reflections

A: Analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments of genres, considering the claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies that are appropriate to the rhetorical situation. This applies to project 1 as it is wholly about rhetoric, where I analyze different arguments, and compose my own. I had to compare to different rhetorics with each other, and made an argument about which is better. This applies to project two as that project focused around making an argument using one thing we read in class. I also applied it to the real world through lost media and that was the argument I was making about the poem. This applies to project 3 as that project was focused on finding different sources and using a different genre of essay, that being a research paper, to make my argument. It also allowed me to get more experience researching topics.

B: Describe the social nature of composing, particularly the role of discourse communities at the local, national, and international level. This applies to my first project as that was dedicated to seeing the discourse that was shared between two different people and comparing them. it allowed me to see this discourse of a different country, and different times. This applies to my second project as I had to be able to compose an essay from a different source. This made it so I could see things from a new perspective. This applies to my third project as that had me figuring out an argument from research into a topic. This let me find a new way to see the discourse surrounding the topic.

C: Use multiple approaches for planning, researching, prewriting, composing, assessing, revising, editing, proofreading, collaborating, and incorporating feedback in order to make your compositions stronger in various mediums and using multiple technologies. This was done in my first project, as I had multiple people proofread it and prewrote some aspects of it to plan. I also incorporated this feedback into my essay in revisions. This applies to my second project as I had to let people proofread it. I also researched the poem I was using for my poem and had to be knowledgeable about the topic I was writing about. this applies to my third essay as I researched my topic extensively and had to prewrite many parts of it. I also had to revise it over time.

D: Improve your fluency in the dialect of Standardized Written American English at the level of the sentence, paragraph, and document. This applies to my first essay as I learned better words to use to make it. This applies to my second project as I had improved in my structuring abilities and ability to format a paragraph. I also learned how to transition into and out of quotes. This applies to my third project as I had greatly improved in my ability to structure paragraphs and essays and was able to understand how to structure my essays to be stronger.

E: Analyze and describe the value of incorporating various languages, dialects, and registers in your own and others’ texts. This applies to my first project as I had to incorporate the perspectives of a different culture and analyzed their register multiple times in it. This applies to the second project as I had to look at the register of the way the poet was describing the ruins and how that reflected the meaning of the story. This applies to my third project as it pertained to finding different ways a superstition could be harmful and analyzing the way these impacted the nature of them.

F: Evaluate your development as a writer over the course of the semester and describe how composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies can be applied in other contexts to advance your goals. This applies to my first project as I had little experience, which is visible in the quality. I also didnt have much experience citing my sources, which is why i did it poorly. This applies to the second project as I had gotten a small amount of more experience and learning done on how to write these, and so I believe it came out better. This applies to the third one as I had much more experience and learning from the previous two and was able to make my essay much stronger and was able to cite my sources in a much better way.

G: Use writing and research as a means of discovery to examine your personal beliefs in the context of multiple perspectives and to explore focused research questions through various mediums and technologies. This applies to my first project as I believed the ability to compare the two against each other was the most valuable way to learn the skill than to simply do one or the other. This applies to my second project as I was able to talk about my own opinions on different media and mediums and how we were losing. This applies to my third project as it was my own personal argument that I was able to research and devlop over time. This let me see new ways of looking at the mediums I was researching.

H: Integrate others’ positions and perspectives into your writing ethically, appropriately, and effectively in various mediums and technologies. This applies to my first projecct as I researched into different ways of seeing the two rhetorics and used them to influence my argument. This applies to my second project as it used the ways of writing from different research strategies to influence and adapt my argument into a stronger piece of writing. I also used the editing choices of different people in it. This applies to my third project as I had to research and use different mediums from various sources and used editing from others.

I: Compose a research-based academic argument in one of various mediums and technologies by identifying, analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing sources, which must include secondary sources. This applies to my first project as I made an argument by synthesizing two differnet sources of literature. This applies to my second project as I had to find sources and make an argument analyzing them and was able to make these sources work together to make a strong essay. this applies to my Third project as I have been able to research multiple differnet sources and perspectives to come to the argument presented, and was able to make them all work and flow into each other. I believe that the essay was stronger since I was able to do this and learned different techniques from the class.

J: Analyze and describe the writing and research conventions of an academic field in order to understand the different ways of creating and communicating knowledge. This applies to my first project as it was an introduction for me to academic writing an showed me the ways in which it should be done. This also reflects in the clear ways I have improved since that essay. This applies to my second project as I has to research and understood more ways to communicate my point, as with citing sources and analysisng them. I had gotten better at doing this by the second time. This applies to my third essay as I had greatly grown and now understood to research and then make the argument based on the research, which greatly helped me communicate my point in a stronger manner.
